FERGUS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO REMOVE ‘PIG-OUT’ FROM DICTIONARY

Posted: 14/03/2018

Farming partner Fergus Howie from Wicks Manor has launched an extraordinary campaign to remove the term ‘pig-out’ from the dictionary.  The term, defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as ‘a bout of eating a large amount of food – for example a junk food pig-out’, is deemed to be “derogatory” and “unfair on pigs” by Fergus.  His remarks come in light of a report released last week which reveals that pigs today are leaner than they have ever been, with a pork medallion containing similar fat levels to a skinless chicken breast.

Fergus says; “It has long been a bugbear of mine that people use porcine terminology to describe over consumption, especially when it comes to food. I grew up on our family pig farm in Essex, were we have been farming pigs for over fifty years, and firmly believe that they are no greedier than any other animal.  So, in light of the news this week which proves that British pigs are leaner than ever, I have written to the Oxford English Dictionary to request that the term ‘pig-out’ with its current out-moded definition is removed.”

Tomorrow, there will be interviews on the BBC Radio Georgie Show from 7pm and ITV studios will be filming for live Good Morning Britain from 6:20am on Thursday 15th March. Fergus will also be and the news stories has been shared by national Newspapers - The Daily Mail, The Mirror, The Sun and The Daily Star (to name  just a few).
